Queenie died on the 17th December 1983 as a result of an IRA explosion at Harrods Department Store, Knightsbridge, London. She was 2 years old. PC Gordon sustained life changing injuries. Three police officers and three civilians were killed in the explosion. Queenie was awarded the RSPCA award for Intelligence & Courage.

John Gordon described how as they unknowingly approached the vehicle containing the explosives Queenie began to behave strangely, trying to pull away from the vehicle with her hackles up. John was convinced that Queenie knew they were in danger and was trying to lead him away from the bomb.
